Ecumenical Leadership Formation
ECHD’s Ecumenical Leadership Formation program strengthens its role in nurturing a new generation of Christian leaders equipped to respond to the challenges and opportunities of ecumenism in the 21st century. The program creates spaces for theological reflection, Christian formation, dialogue, and shared learning, contributing to a deeper understanding of the ecumenical vocation in the Pakistani context.
The program promotes Christian values, ecumenical spirituality, mutual respect, collaboration, and meaningful relationships across churches and congregations. It also supports contextualized approaches to faith formation by developing capacities, curricula, and methodologies that respond to contemporary realities.

Prophetic Witness & Diakonia
ECHD’s Prophetic Witness & Diakonia priority area brings together advocacy, justice, peacebuilding, and compassionate service in response to the challenges faced by vulnerable and excluded communities in Pakistan. In a context of intolerance, discrimination, violence, and impunity, ECHD works with churches and ecumenical partners to strengthen a collective Christian response that upholds human dignity, religious freedom, human rights, justice, and peace.
Prophetic Witness encourages churches to engage courageously with issues affecting society, including extremism, radicalization, incitement to violence, discrimination, religious freedom, and human rights violations. Through policy dialogue, advocacy, lobbying, awareness raising, and solidarity campaigns, ECHD creates opportunities for churches and partners to speak together for justice and peace.
Diakonia expresses the Church’s calling to serve others through practical action. ECHD supports initiatives addressing essential needs such as education, health, women’s empowerment, and community healing, while promoting inclusive communities and solidarity with vulnerable people and churches.
By connecting transformational justice with prophetic diakonia, ECHD seeks to strengthen the Church’s public witness and practical ministry.

Coordinate ecumenical advocacy at national, regional, and global levels on emerging issues affecting human dignity and rights.

Economic, Ecological & Gender Justice
ECHD’s Economic, Ecological & Gender Justice priority area responds to interconnected forms of inequality that threaten human dignity, livelihoods, communities, and God’s creation. We recognize that economic systems that concentrate wealth and resources can deepen poverty and exclusion, while unsustainable development contributes to environmental destruction and disproportionately affects vulnerable communities.
Our work responds to the growing impacts of climate change and ecological degradation, including changing rainfall patterns, extreme weather events, floods, droughts, melting glaciers, pressure on agriculture and livestock, and loss of biodiversity. We promote climate justice, responsible stewardship, and fair and sustainable use of the earth’s resources.
ECHD also addresses gender inequality as a fundamental injustice and a significant driver of poverty. We promote equality and partnership between women and men in church and society, challenge discriminatory and patriarchal structures, strengthen women’s leadership and participation, and encourage positive masculinities.
Through advocacy, awareness, capacity building, community action, and ecumenical collaboration, ECHD seeks to advance economic justice, ecological sustainability, and gender equality, working with people of different faiths and communities toward a more just and sustainable society.
Human Rights & Democracy
ECHD’s Human Rights & Democracy priority area seeks to defend human dignity and promote a society where every person can enjoy their fundamental rights and participate as an equal citizen. From an ethical and theological perspective, ECHD accompanies vulnerable and excluded communities experiencing discrimination, oppression, persecution, and violations of their rights.
Our approach promotes an integrated understanding of religious freedom and civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights. We work with communities, churches, human rights defenders, and ecumenical partners to strengthen their capacity for advocacy, civic participation, and constructive engagement with decision-makers.
ECHD gives particular attention to religious minorities, women, children, transgender persons, and other marginalized groups, while creating safe spaces for communities and churches to reflect on the relationship between justice, human rights, dignity, and faith.
Our work includes human rights education, advocacy and lobbying, legal aid, capacity building, community awareness, and policy engagement. We also advocate for equal citizenship, meaningful political participation, protection of minority rights, and the review and repeal of discriminatory laws and policies.
Through these efforts, ECHD seeks to strengthen democratic participation, accountability, inclusion, and respect for human dignity for all.
Humanitarian Relief & Crisis Resilience
ECHD’s Humanitarian Relief & Crisis Resilience priority area focuses on saving lives, protecting dignity, and supporting communities affected by natural and human-made disasters. We respond to humanitarian emergencies by providing timely assistance and working with local partners and communities to address urgent needs such as food, clean water, shelter, health, protection, and other essential services.
Our approach goes beyond immediate relief. ECHD seeks to reduce communities’ long-term dependence on humanitarian assistance by strengthening local capacities, resilience, preparedness, and self-reliance. We support affected communities in recovering, rebuilding their livelihoods, and transitioning from emergency response toward sustainable development.
Working through churches, community organizations, and local networks, we promote community-led disaster preparedness, risk reduction, early action, recovery, and resilience. We prioritize the participation of vulnerable groups and ensure that humanitarian interventions are inclusive, accountable, and responsive to local needs.
Through this approach, ECHD seeks to ensure that communities are not only supported during crises but are better prepared to withstand future shocks and recover with greater dignity, resilience, and independence.
