Bringing Churches Together, Strengthening Communities, and Transforming Lives.
At the Ecumenical Commission for Human Development (ECHD), Building Unity is more than a slogan; it is the heart of our mission and the foundation of our work. Inspired by the prayer of Jesus Christ, “May they all be one” (John 17:21), we seek to foster unity among churches, communities, and people of goodwill, creating spaces where collaboration, mutual respect, and shared witness can flourish. In a world increasingly marked by division, polarization, and exclusion, ECHD believes that unity is a powerful force for healing, reconciliation, and sustainable development. We are committed to bringing people together across denominational, cultural, social, and religious boundaries to work toward the common good.
Why Unity Matters
Pakistan is a country rich in diversity, yet many communities face challenges of fragmentation, inequality, and misunderstanding. Christian churches often operate within different traditions and structures, while broader society continues to grapple with social, economic, and religious tensions. Building unity strengthens the collective voice of communities, promotes peaceful coexistence, and creates opportunities for collaborative action. When people work together in trust and solidarity, they can respond more effectively to poverty, injustice, humanitarian crises, climate challenges, and threats to human dignity.
Our Approach to Building Unity
ECHD promotes unity through dialogue, cooperation, and shared action. We create opportunities for churches, faith leaders, youth, women, civil society organizations, and local communities to come together around common values and shared concerns. Our work includes: Promoting ecumenical dialogue and collaboration among churches, Strengthening relationships between faith communities and civil society, Empowering youth as ambassadors of unity and reconciliation, Facilitating interfaith engagement and peacebuilding initiatives, Building partnerships for justice, humanitarian action, and sustainable development, Encouraging collective advocacy for human rights and the dignity of all people
Unity through Shared Witness
True unity is not merely agreement; it is a commitment to journey together despite differences. Through prayer, service, advocacy, and community engagement, ECHD encourages churches and communities to bear a common witness to justice, peace, compassion, and hope. Whether responding to humanitarian emergencies, promoting climate justice, supporting vulnerable children, advocating for minority rights, or empowering young leaders, we believe that our impact is greatest when we work together.
Our Vision for the Future
ECHD envisions a Pakistan where churches stand together in common mission, communities embrace diversity as a strength, and people of different backgrounds collaborate to build a more just, peaceful, and compassionate society. Building unity is not a destination, it is a continuous journey of listening, learning, serving, and growing together.
Join Us
We invite churches, faith-based organizations, community groups, youth leaders, donors, and partners to join us in this mission of unity. Together, we can build bridges where there are divisions, foster hope where there is despair, and create lasting transformation for generations to come.
